Abstract

1,148,097. Textile treating apparatus. FMCCORP. 20 Oct., 1966, No. 47038/66. Heading D1L. Apparatus for humidifying hydrophilic material e.g. paper, comprises a chamber 15 having separate inlet and outlet openings 29, 31, means e.g. rollers 35, 36 for passing the material through the chamber, means for supplying a humid vaporous atmosphere to said chamber, means for applying a fine mist of water to the material situated outwardly of and adjacent at least one of said openings, and suction means adjacent the outlet opening 31 for withdrawing humid atmosphere from within the chamber to cause a layer of water mist to be drawn into the chamber. The humid vaporous atmosphere preferably comprises wet steam which is supplied through steam headers 45, 47. Heating coils 61 may be disposed within the chamber 15. The water mist supplying means preferably comprises an atomizer which may be positioned adjacent the inlet opening as at 39, adjacent the outlet opening as at 73 or both. The suction means comprises upper and lower suction ducts 65, 67 adjacent the outlet opening 31. The humidified material may be cooled after passage through the chamber 15 by passing over a chill roller 37.
