Abstract

787,281. Drying paper. ADSHEAD, W. June 20, 1956 [June 21, 1955], No. 17845/55. Class 34(1) A web 1, Fig. 1, of waxed or coated paper is passed from the waxing bath over a heated roller A and thence through a bath B of chilled water and over rollers b<1> to a receiving reel, water being blown off the web back into the bath B by jets of compressed air supplied through slotted pipes D, Fig. 3, having adjustable blades d<1> to control the size of the jets. Air is drawn through a filter c<2> and a valve c' by a blower C<1> which discharges into a main C having branches connected to the pipes D. In another arrangement, a coated paper web is dried by passage over a horizontal perforater surface above which are slotted air supply pipes which direct jets of warm air on to the paper. Warm air is supplied to the underside of the paper through the perforations on the surface.
