692,611. Drying apparatus. ARKELL, H. W., GRIMSTEN, W. L., and GORDON & CO. Ltd., J. Feb. 20, 1950 [Jan. 17, 1949], No. 1304/49. Class 34 (ii) In drying apparatus having a container 3 through which grain or seeds may be passed vertically and continuously or in batches and in which drying air is passed transversely through the material, the thickness of the layer of material may be adjusted. The container 3 has permeable walls 8, 9 of perforated metal or open wire hessian either or both walls being movable on slideways 11 by screws 12. Air is drawn through a heater 4 and delivered from fan 5 through duct 6 into the bottom of an air chamber 7 separated from the container 3 by walls 8 whence it flows through the material to be dried. A damper 16 regulates the air flow. In a modification the arrangement of Fig. 3 is duplicated and the ducting 6 may be fed alternatively with warm or cold air or a mixture of both.
