Abstract

463,060. Drying and conditioning cereals &c. ROWLES, A. H., and BARRON & SON, Ltd., W. S. Sept. 20, 1935, No. 26080. [Class 58] [Also in Groups XIII and VI] Apparatus for drying and conditioning cereals and other substances, for example, tea, tobacco, and granular or powdered minerals, comprises one or more substantially upright conduits through which the material is carried by a gaseous conditioning medium, each conduit comprising a series of trunks connected by constricted necks, and the conical inlet portion of each trunk being provided with a deflector preferably of double conical form. In the construction shown, a heater 1 is adapted to heat cold air drawn in by a fan 2, and the heated air conveys maize flakes, fed through a valve 9, along a conduit 4 to a separator 5. The conduit 4, of the form shown, is provided with deflectors 4c adapted to distribute the heated air. The dried flakes are delivered through a second valve 9 to a conduit 6 along which they are conveyed by cold air impelled by a fan 7, the flakes passing through the conduit 6 to a separator 8 for delivery through a sack-holding shoot 11. The temperature of the heated air may be controlled by a thermostat 18 which is connected to an electrically-controlled valve 19 for controlling admission of steam to the heater 1.
