Abstract
574,974. Protective cut-out arrangements. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. March 19, 1941, No. 3756. Convention date, July 28, 1939. [Class 38 (v)] A protective arrangement for a D.C. circuit, such as a traction circuit, comprises a transformer 2 with one or more air-gaps 3, 3<1> and a secondary 4 which feeds a relay 5, preferably of the moving- frame and fixed magnet type, through an inductance 6 of the air-core type, or one having an adjustable air-gap. In order to discriminate between faults and heavy starting-currents, which may reach the value of a fault but in a longer period of time, the relay is made to depend both on the current-maximum and on the rapidity of its establishment, this being effected by making the relay-circuit inductance very high with respect to its resistance, the latter quantity being also adjustable so as to vary its time-constant.
