Abstract
500,694. Supply systems for X-ray apparatus ; transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 1, 1938, No. 16408. Convention date, June 4, 1937. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] The energizing transformer for high voltage X-ray apparatus such as is described in Specification 491,477, has intermediate tappings on its secondary winding 29 connected to intermediate electrodes 20 of the X-ray tube, the magnetic circuit of the transformer comprising a non-magnetic portion of such dimensions that the inductive current drawn by the transformer is of the same order of magnitude as its capacitative current. The non-magnetic portion may comprise one or more air gaps or inserts of non-magnetic metal or of insulating material such as a phenolic condensation product. These high reluctance portions may be arranged at the Junctions 41, 42, 43, 44 of the limbs and yokes of the transformer core 38 and/or at the centre of the secondary coil 29.
