Abstract
630,557. Protective cut out systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRIEDLANDER, E. Jan. 11, 1946, No. 1030. [Class 38(v)] A protective system for a three-phase feeder gives protection against interphase, earth and over-current faults by using a filter circuit which produces a single-phase current, the magnitude and phase of which is dependent upon the magnitude of the positive sequence components of the feeder currents, with the addition of a larger zero sequence component to increase the sensitivity of the circuit to earth faults. One filter circuit may be used to operate a relay to give local protection. In a differential protective arrangement a suitable relay may be connected between two spaced filter circuits by means of two pilot wires or by radio link. In Fig. 3, the secondary windings TR, TY, TB, of three current transformers are connected at one end to form a neutral and windings TR, TB, are connected at their other ends to a reactor X, whilst. the other end of winding TY is connected to a resistor R1, which in turn is connected to a central tapping point on the reactor X. A relay Z connected between the ends of the windings TR, TY, is energized by a current dependent on the positive sequence components derived from the circuit so far described. The provision of a further winding X<SP>1</SP> on the core of the reactor and connected between the reactor and the neutral point of the current transformers introduces the larger zero sequence component into the relay coil Z. In Fig. 2 (not shown), a further current transformer used in the place of the winding X<SP>1</SP> has its primary winding connected between the neutral point and the centre tapping of the reactor, its secondary winding being connected across the relay Z. In a further modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), a resistance, replacing the winding X<SP>1</SP>, is connected between the neutral point and the end of the resistance R1, the relay coil being connected between the neutral and winding TR.
