574,002. Ignition arches. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Oct. 29, 1943, No. 17932. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1942. [Class 51 (i)] The ignition arch of a pressure-fired furnace employing powdered fuel consists of metallic elements of a thickness sufficient to maintain incandescence on the face thereof nearest the firing zone, the elements on 'the side remote from the firing zone being cooled by a cooling medium. As shown, the arch 3 is of annular form, provided with ribs and divided into sections. Cooling water may be circulated through grooves 4. Combustion air entering at 6 passes under the control of valves 7, 8 directly to the burner end of the arch and to the outer end of the arch, by way of passages 9, 10, 11 respectively.
