Rotary &c. furnaces.-In a furnace, for example a rotary furnace, having relatively movable parts through which pass the flame or hot gases, a space or gap is left between such parts across which the flame &c. can pass. The passages in the two parts are arranged in line, and where it is not desired to draw in any additional air at the gap, the passages are made of the same diameter. Otherwise, the delivery passage may be smaller than the receiving passage, or the end of the receiving passage may be coned, or the end of the delivery passage may be reduced in diameter.
