Abstract
578,007. Combustion chambers. ASIATIC PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., LUBBOCK, I., BECKER, L. S., and GOLLIN, G. J. Nov. 7, 1941, No. 14400. [Class 51 (i)] A combustion chamber having an expansion nozzle 2 which operates at high temperatures and pressures, as in jet propulsion apparatus, is provided with a refractory lining, preferably of graphite, divided transversely into rings 3 of comparatively short lengths, designed so as not to be subjected to excessive tensile stress in operation, either by dividing each ring radially into segments, or by shrinking the metal shell 1 around the rings. Radial gaps may be provided between the segments. An additional interior lining 5 may be provided at the throat of the expansion nozzle, and a retaining-plate 6 fitted at the open end.
