Abstract

543,918. Combustion chambers. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Oct. 28, 1940, No. 15797. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1939. [Class 51 (i)] A combustion chamber 4, Fig. 1, for generating .gases for heating and power purposes, is formed of a number of overlapping sheet metal conduits 8 through the spaces between which air is supplied at high velocity from an annular space 5 enclosed between the wall 6 of the combustion chamber and an outer casing 7. Part of the air supplied by a conduit 1 passes direct to the combustion chamber to support combustion of fuel from the nozzle 3 and the remainder passes to the annular space 5. The conduits 8 are suspended in such a manner that they may expand freely and are spaced apart by ribs 13 as shown in Fig. 2. The conduits may be suspended by links 10 or flexible metal strips. Fig. 5 shows radial strips 12 on the conduits engaging with rails 11 on the casing 7. The conduits may be conical or cylindrical and stepped as shown at 15 in Fig. 7. Each conduit section 8 may be formed of several parts as shown at 14 in Fig. 5.
