Abstract

1442350 Gas turbine engine combustion equipment GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 24 Oct 1973 [10 Nov 1972] 49533/73 Heading F1L The invention relates to combustion equipment for a gas turbine engine and to the construction of a flame tube or liner wall therefor. The combustion equipment comprises an outer casing 26 and an inner casing 28 between which are disposed an outer liner wall 22 and an inner liner wall 24 which together define an annular combustion zone 20, an outer annular cooling air passage 14 and an inner annular cooling air passage 16. The outer liner wall 22 comprises a series of telescopically engaged ring members 22a which are formed with apertures 34 for inflow of cooling air. A further wall 36 isdisposed between the outer liner wall 22 and the outer casing 26 to define an inner plenum 38, there being openings 40 in the wall 36 whereby cooling air from the plenum 14 is caused to impinge against the outer surface of the outer liner wall thereby cooling the latter, the air then passing through openings 34 to flow along the inner surface of the outer liner wall as a cooling film. The wall 36 is supported from the outer liner wall 22 by means of brackets 42 which also serve to divide the inner plenum 38 into separate compartments. The airflow into the separate compartments may be arranged so that most air is diverted into those compartments where greatest cooling is necessary.
