A flame tube has a generally cylindrical wall built up from a series of overlapping frustoconical sections 10 with adjacent ends of alternate sections in substantial radial alignment. Each section 10 overlaps approximately half of the adjacent section such that the wall is constituted in the combustion and dilution zones by at least two layers of metal, except at the positions of air inlet openings 12, 13 from the surrounding air jacket. Corrugated cylindrical strips 11 and dimples 15 space the sections apart.
