Abstract
998,129. Blast furnace stoves. URQUHART'S (1926) Ltd. June 18, 1963 [July 3, 1962], No. 25407/62. Heading F4B. In a blast furnace stove having a closed bottom vertical combustion chamber, gas and cold air from ducts A and B respectively pass into an annular space D formed adjacent the stove wall by skirt E, dependant therefrom and constraining the mixture to flow downwards to the bottom of the chamber, the resulting flow pattern ensuring flame stability in the combustion zone R. Ignition is due to the high initial temperature of the structure or alternatively, a pilot flame S and/or a series of pilot flames T can be incorporated. A cylindrical partition tube J, disposed within the annulus D, has a number of bent tongues K formed in the outer periphery and contacting adjacent walls to provide apertures L and M, which assist gas/air mixing at P prior to ignition.
