Abstract
1,004,785. Smoke consuming. PRATDANIELS (STROUD) Ltd. July 10, 1963 [Aug. 17, 1962], No. 31723/62. Heading F4B Smoke-consuming apparatus comprises a refractory-lined combustion chamber having a zone of decreased area and a fuel/primary air burner, smoke, fumes and secondary air being introduced tangentially into the chamber to produce a vortical flame shape. Fuel and primary air are introduced by nozzle 16 and duct 17 respectively into the conical section 12 of the combustion chamber 10, having a refractory lining 11. Smoke, fumes and secondary air tangentially enters the annulus 18, which is in open communication with the said conical section, from duct 19 and impart a vortical motion to the gases within the combustion chamber. The inwardly-directed annular rib 20 is heated by the hot gases and becomes a radiant heat source aiding complete combustion. A plurality of such chambers may be used to deal with a single or multiple smoke source. The smoke and secondary air may be preheated by, for example, by-passing them through a heat exchanger disposed around the apparatus' discharge pipe.
