Abstract
506,622. TuyÞres for shaft furnaces. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A. (Brassert & Co., H. A.) Aug. 16, 1938, No. 24119. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A water cooled tuyÞre for shaft furnaces has a non-rectilinear bore as indicated in Fig. 3, and the axial thickness of the nose 25 is'greater than the radial thickness of the wall 27. The bore of the nose portion is substantially circular in shape and of constant cross section. Cooling fins 28 extend from the nose portion 25 into the cooling space 23. The thickened portion of the nose may extend around the tuyÚre mouth only over the section liable to be burnt. The internal bore of the tuyÞre may be wholly or in part curved as shown in Fig. 7, A set of such tuyÞres may be arranged around a shaft furnace as shown in Fig. 9. The tuyÞres may be divided into two sets, one set being arranged to discharge at one angle to the radius of the furnace and the other set at another angle. Alternatively, one of the sets may deliver radially.
