Abstract

1480150 Burner quarls ASSOCIATED BRITISH COMBUSTION Ltd 12 Jan 1976 [30 Aug 1974] 33630/74 Headings F4B and F4U A metallic quarl 3 for an oil, gas or coal fired burner 2 comprises inner and outer skins 4 and 5 spaced apart by members 10 to define an annular space or jacket 6 through which, in use, a cooling medium is passed. As shown the cooling medium comprises a proportion of the combustion air 7 fed to the burner. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), cooling medium is supplied to the quarl 3 either through a duct (8) connected to an external supply or a duct (9) connected to an internal supply. The cooling medium may be exhaust gas from the furnace or boiler within which, in use, the burner is located. Alternatively the cooling medium may be in a closed circuit including a suitable cooling coil. The cooling jacket 6 may include fins (not shown).
