Abstract

In making gas-expanded rubber material using ultra fast or semi-ultra fast accelerators, the mixing of the composition takes place in the absence of either the sulphur, or the accelerator and the missing ingredient is added just prior to calendering or, where a moulded article is to be produced, just prior to the moulding stage. After calendering or moulding the mass is allowed to become sufficiently vulcanized to retain the gas when impregnated therewith. The gassing may be produced by adding gas producing materials such as an acid or a carbonate. The process may be carried out in two or three stages as described in Specifications 358,967 and 506,077.
