Abstract
663,099. Rubber compositions. LEESON, G. W. T., and FREW, J. B. Nov. 26, 1948, No. 30770/48. Class 70 Highly resilient articles of rubber (excepting golf balls claimed in Specification 638,913, and cricket or hockey balls claimed in Specification 655,448) are obtained by placing a rubber mix containing a vulcanizing agent and fillers and also a chemical substance readily decomposable under heat, and which at atmospheric pressure would evolve gas at temperature equal to or less than that at which vulcanization would normally be effected, moulding the mix in a fluid-tight mould which is completely filled and closed, and subjecting the mix to heat and pressure necessary for vulcanization so as to produce an article which is free from visible porosity and from gaseous cells or inclusions. The preferred gas producing substance is ammonium carbonate and the mix should preferably also contain 3-5 per cent of oleic acid. The moulds may be heated by steam, electricity or diathermically. Specification 221,708, [Class 132(ii)], also is referred to.
