502,287. Gas - expanded rubber. UNITED STATES RUBBER PRODUCTS, Inc. March 3, 1938, No. 6635. Convention date, March 27, 1937. [Class 70] Soft or hard cellular rubber is made by filling a mould substantially completely with a vulcanizable rubber mass, generating an inflating gas within the rubber mass while subjecting it to the positive unyielding pressure of a solid surface to prevent expansion, partly curing the rubber in the confined state, then permitting expansion and completing the vulcanization. The gas evolved may be nitrogen from sodium nitrite and ammonium acetate, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, hydrogen sulphide, nitrous oxide, or mixtures, e.g. nitrogen and hydrogen sulphide. Dried latex, reclaimed rubber, synthetic rubber, e.g. olefine polysulphide or polychloroprene plastics, balata, and guttapercha may be used.
