Abstract
Patterns for precision casting by the lostwax process, either by gravity or under pressure, comprise a mixture of at least two synthetic polyethylenes of very different mean molecular weights. Polyethylenes (a) which may be moulded under gravity and atmospheric pressure and elevated temperature, e.g. 120-150 DEG C. of molecular weight 2,500; and (b) which can only be moulded under these conditions by injection under pressure, e.g. at 100 Kgm. per sq. cm. of molecular weight 24,000 are specified. Examples describe compositions using proportions between 35 and 50 per cent and 65 and 50 per cent of the high and low molecular weight polyethylenes respectively. Diluents and plasticizers may also be included, e.g. a mixture of the two polyethylenes and paraffin-wax in equal proportions may be used.
