Abstract

Unipositional akylated phenols are obtained by isomerising a mixture of alkylated phenols by heating at 150-170 DEG C. in presence of a cationic resin such as sulphonated styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer. The examples describe the preparation of pt-butyphenol and 4-t-butylcatechol. U.S.A. Specifications 2,514,419, 2,516,152, 2,584,103 2,684,389 and U.S.S.R. Specification 109,978 are referred to.
