Abstract

A symmetrical xenyl triazene, particularly 1.3 - bis - (o - xenyl) - triazene or 1.3 - bis - (p-xenyl)-triazene is mixed with a synthetic rubber resin, or cellulose derivative, e.g. alkyd resins, urea-formaldehyde resins, polyacrylonitrile, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, copolymers of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate or of butadiene and styrene, cellulose esters or ethers, copolymers of olefines and diolefines, polymerized halo-olefines, polymerized olefines, or polymerized organic sulphides, and then subjected to heat to evolve nitrogen and produce a cellular or spongy product. Vulcanizing-ingredients may also be incorporated, the heat applied being sufficient to decompose the triazene and vulcanize the mix. Sodium carbonate may also be included.ALSO:A symmetrical xenyl triazene, particularly 1 : 3 - bis - (o - xenyl) - triazene or 1 : 3 - bis-(p-xenyl)-triazene is mixed with a natural or synthetic rubber and then decomposed by heating to evolve nitrogen and produce a cellular or spongy product. Vulcanizing ingredients may also be incorporated, the heat applied being sufficient to decompose the triazene and vulcanize the mix. Sodium bicarbonate may also be included.
