Abstract
749,052. Moulding cellular rubber and resin EQUIPMENT MENAGER ET INDUSTRIEL E. M. I. Aug. 27, 1953 [Aug. 27, 1952], No. 21582/52. Addition to 652,696, Class 87(2) In a process of the kind described in the parent Specification the polycellular moulding material is allowed to expand in a mould having a yielding wall. A shown, a. hydraulically-operated ram 21 co-operates with a mould 18 containing the mix and resists the expansion of the mix on heating to such a degree that only an expansion between 10 and 30 per cent of the original volume is permitted. The platens 20, 23 are heated by steam in passages 27, 28. In an example, a rubber mix is used comprising 100 parts of premasticated rubber, 1.5 parts of stearic acid, 5 parts of zinc oxide, 10 parts of sulphur, 0.4 parts of phenoxy guanidine, 12 parts of finely powdered azo-isobutyric acid dinitrile, as the blowing agent. The mould 18 was filled to the top and the ram 21 held down on it, being adjusted so that it would yield on a pressure of 500 kg./cm<2>. The whole was then heated to a temperature of 110‹C. when an expansion between 10 and 30 per cent of the original volume occured. The heating was then continued to cure the rubber, the mould cooled to atmospheric temperature and the moulded material removed from the mould when it expanded under atmospheric pressure and was heated again under conditions allowing it to expand more, the final volume being about ten times the original of the content in mould 18. Another example is given.
