Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thick, bridged polyolefinic foamed material having uniform, fine closed cells by a method in which an expandible polyolefinic composition is put in a mold, heated while pressing, taken out of the mold in a high- temperature state in which undecomposed blowing agent is left behind, and then put in a final mold and heated indirectly. CONSTITUTION:An expandible resin composition, prepared by mixing a blowing agent, a blowing aid, and a cross linking agent with a polyolefinic resin, is packed into a mold and heated under a pressure. Then, the resin molding is taken out of the mold in a high-temperature state in which 40-85% of the blowing agent present remain undecomposed in order to obtain an intermediate primary expanded product. Then, the primary expanded product in a high-temperature state is put in a mold not enclosed, having a cross section and a dimension which correspond to the shape and dimension of a final product and then heated from the outside of the mold in such a way as to indirectly heat the primary expanded product and also to decompose the remaining blowing agent in a short time for expansion. Thus, a thick, bridged polyolefinic foamed material having uniform, fine closed cells as a low-density expanded product can be obtained.
