Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a bridged polyolefin continuous foamed material which is free of the formation of shrinkage and cavities, good in chemical resistance and water resistance, and useful for heat insulators by a method in which an expandible and bridgeable resin composition is molded and heated under a specific condition for bridging and expansion so as to form the foamed material, and then the foamed material is deformed mechanically.
CONSTITUTION: An expandible, bridgeable resin composition, prepared by mixing a blowing agent (e.g., azodicarbonamide, etc.) and a cross linking agent (e.g., dicumyl peroxide, etc.) with a polyolefin, is molded into a desired form by keeping it under the condition of zero gel reparation factor in which no cross linking reaction occurs. The molded resin is heated under ordinary pressure to cause the concurrent decomposition of the cross linking agent and the blowing agent to take place, and then deformed mechanically to form the foamed material having easily breakable cell membranes. Then, the resin so treated is further deformed mechanically by passing it through uniform-speed two rolls so as to connect the cells together. Thus, a continuous foamed material product is obtained.
