Abstract
170,682. Schidrowitz, P., and Catalpo, Ltd. July 28, 1920. Vulcanizing materials and compositions.-An accelerator for use in vulcanizing is produced by synthesizing a carbon bisulphide derivative of an organic base such as piperidine, upon a carrier such as the colloidal clay described in Specifications 106,890 and 121,191, [both in Class 87 (i), Bricks &c.], zinc oxide, French chalk, light carbonate of magnesia, or calcium carbonate. According to one example, 100 lb. of French chalk is placed in a closed vessel and sprayed with 25 lb. of piperidine, and then with 20 lb. of carbon bisulphide, the material being constantly agitated. The temperature should be kept below 30‹ C. The product is ground and sifted. A mixture of 200 parts of rubber, 4 parts of sulphur, 4 parts of accelerator, and 5 parts of zinc oxide is vulcanized in about 5 minutes at 286‹ F.
