Abstract
A plastic composition suitable for moulding storage battery containers comprises more than ten parts by weight of a powdered anthracite coal of a size which will pass through an 80-mesh per inch screen in intimate mixture with one part of unvulcanised butadiene-styrene rubber, sulphur in an amount sufficient to cure the rubber and a plasticizer. Natural rubber in the form of brown crepe or flat bark, lime, light calcined magnesia, zinc oxide, an accelerator such as butyraldehyde-aniline di-o-tolylguanidine, or diphenylguanidine, or a high molecular weight unsaturated petroleum derivative may also be added. In an example, a mixture consists of 10.5 parts by weight of crude rubber, 10.5 parts of G R-S, 4-11 parts of sulphur, 52.5 parts of petroleum derivative plasticizer, 287 parts of powdered anthracite, 1 part of lime, and 0.75 part of a butyraldehyde accelerator.ALSO:A plastic composition suitable for moulding storage battery containers comprises more than 10 parts by weight of a powdered anthracite coal of a size which will pass through an 80 mesh per inch screen in intimate mixture with one part of unvulcanized butadiene-styrene rubber, sulphur in an amount sufficient to cure the rubber and a plasticizer.
