Abstract

A composition suitable for electric insulating purposes comprises a mixture of plasticised polyvinyl chloride and an organic polysulphide sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Thiokol", which has been plasticised with a rubber vulcanization accelerator. Vulcanizing ingredients such as zinc oxide and mineral fillers may be added. Specified plasticisers for the polyvinyl chloride are tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl phthalate, coal tar pitch and coumarone resin. In examples, plasticised polyvinyl chloride is compounded with a mixture of (1) "Thiokol A", diphenyl guanidine, tetramethylthiuram disulphide, soft gas black and zinc oxide, or (2) "Thiokol F," diphenyl guanidine, dibenzthiazyl disulphide, soft black and zinc oxide.
