Abstract

Expanded material is prepared by mixing with an organic plastic material, compounding and stabilizing ingredients and, as blowing agent, a mixture of urea hydrogen peroxide and a fatty acid, e.g. sebacic acid, and subjecting the mixture to heat and pressure. Polyvinyl chloride is the specified plastic and it is preferably used as a slurry or dough in toluene, acetone, or methyl ethyl ketone. Specified compounding ingredients are lead or calcium stearate, pigments, lead carbonate and tricresyl phosphate. The blowing is preferably carried out at 50-60 DEG C., followed by a rise to 150 DEG C. to fuse the mixture.
