Abstract

573,331. Frictional cigarette lighters. BAUER. W. S. Feb. 28, 1944, No. 3672. [Class 75 (iii)] A tubular wick holder 5 carrying on a plate 8 a serrated wheel 10, a flint guide 16 and a pivoted wick cap 12 is threaded or otherwise fitted in a hole in an article such as a grenade case capable of acting as a spirit reservoir. The wick cap and serrated wheel may be operated by springs 14 to ignite the wick on pressing the grenade striker lever 17 against the resistance of a spring 19 to raise a catch 20 normally engaging the rim 12a of the cap. The lever 17 passes under the safety pin 18 and is pivoted in brackets 7 in the grenade case, a gripping surface on the holder 5 preventing dislodgment. Alternatively the operation of the striker lever may raise the wick cap and rotate the serrated wheel against the resistance of a restoring spring. In another arrangement the wick cap and serrated wheel are operated by a trigger mounted on the plate 8. Specification 573,332 is referred to.
