Abstract

552,941. Cigarette &c. lighters. REES, G. G., and REDMAN, A. M. Jan. 28, 1942, No. 1164. [Class 75 (iii)] A friction igniter for cigarettes &c. comprises a wick container 10 having a pivoted lid 11 fitted with a U-shaped member 23 having its arms formed with teeth 21, 22 meshing with racks 20 formed on the bifurcated end of a lever 16 which can be turned on its pivot 15 at the back of the container by manual pressure to raise the lid. The member 23 is held in fixed position relatively to the lid by an indentation 35 in the side of the lid and is formed with a slot 28 to receive a pawl engaging teeth on the side of the flint wheel 31 so as to produce sparks for igniting the wick when the lid is opened.
