Abstract

1,197,753. Lighters. H. BROSS. 21 July, 1967 [25 July, 1966; 7 Oct., 1966]. No. 33721/67. Heading F4F. A gas-fuelled smoker's lighter has a cover 2 which may be pivoted about a hinge 3 or lifted bodily and which is provided with a flame opening 7, the cover being coupled to a burner valve and to ignition means so that as the cover is opened the gas is released and ignited. As shown in Fig. 2, a burner nozzle 14 is closed by a disc 13 operated by a bifurcated member 15 and a flint wheel is rotated by means of a pawl 36 pivoted to the cover 2 which pawl rotates a drum 29 containing a spring 30 which is wound up and then released to rotate the flint wheel. In modifications the flint wheel is driven by a rack and pinion arrangement or the gas is ignited by a spark generated by magneto-electric or piezo-electric means, or by battery-operated incandescent means.
