Abstract

733,033. Gas-fuelled lighters. EISERT AKT.-GES., BRUDER. April 27, 1953 [Dec. 23, 1952], No. 11545/53. Class 75 (3). In a gas-fuelled lighter in which operating means for an adjustable valve in a rotatable burner tip is actuated from outside the lighter casing and inside the lighter casing engages the burner tip when an exchangeable fuel container is inserted in the casing the burner tip has engaging surfaces similar to a bolt head arranged around its outer surface and the operating means is constructed as a key or spanner. The spanner 7 is freely held in the lighter casing by inturned lugs 8, 9 and is cone shaped at 13 to facilitate the entry of the dome or cone-shaped burner tip 5 when the reservoir 2 is inserted in the lighter casing. The burner tip 5 and the spanner 7 are provided with a number of engaging surfaces 6 and 14. The arm 10 of the spanner 7 projects through a slot 11 in the lighter casing 1 which slot 11 is of sufficient length to enable the burner tip 5 to be rotated from the fully closed to the fully open valve position. A hinged flap 3 is provided at the bottom of the highter casing to allow replacement of the fuel reservoir 2. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the spanner 7 is fixed inside the lighter casing and a cylindrical reservoir 2 is rotated by a knurled portion, provided on the outside at the centre or base thereof, accessible from the outside of the lighter casing. The spanner 7 may be provided with downwardly projecting pins which engage spaces formed between teeth circumferentially arranged on the burner tip 5.
