Abstract

956,885. Mounting burners; preventing emission of flames. STEIN & ROUBAIX. Dec. 15, 1961 [Dec. 20, 1960], No. 45095/61. Headings F4B and F4T. A device for allowing the withdrawal of a burner or other element 3 from the interior of a boiler under pressure comprises a tubular member 10 fitted with a valve 15 extending through the wall 1 of the boiler, and a sleeve 19 detachably fitted to the element 3 and slidably fitting in member 10. As shown, when rod 3 is to be removed, sleeve 19 is slid in stoning box 18 e.g. by means of pneumatic jack 17. The sleeve 19 carries element 3 with it until the atomising cap 5 is withdrawn past valve 15. Valve 15 is then closed, flanges 20 and 21 securing sleeve 19 and the element 3 together are released and the element can be completely removed. In a modification, a flap valve (Fig. 3, not shown) closes off the member 10 when the element 3 is withdrawn past it.
