Abstract
572,520. Adjusting chains of motorcycles. ASSOCIATED MOTOR CYCLES, Ltd., and PUBLIC TRUSTEE, (Representative of COLLIER, H. A.). Aug. 23, 1943, No. 13737. [Class 136 (iii)] In a cam-type adjustment for the chain drive to the rear wheel of a motor-cycle one of the cams 4 is non-rotatably mounted on the wheel spindle 1 and the other cam 10 is rotatable on the spindle but may be fixed thereto after it has been adjusted to the required angular position. The fixed cam 4 is riveted to a hexagonal distance piece 2 slidably fitted to the spindle and prevented from rotation thereon by a key 3, and co-operates with a stop 5 fixed to the inner face of the rear fork 6. The adjustable cam 10 is fixed to a member 9 with a conical bore engaging a tapered section 8 of the spindle and co-operates with a stop 11 similar to the stop 5. In the original fitting of the spindle 1 to the cycle the wheel is aligned in the frame with the cam 4 contacting the stop 5, the cam 10 is then rotated until it contacts the stop 11 and the member 9 is then tapped axially to fix it on the tapered section 8. The end nuts 12 and 13 are then tightened, and adjustments of the chain are effected by slackening these nuts and turning the distance piece 2.
