Abstract

415,683. Adjustable axle-mountings for cycles. CAMPAGNOLO, T., 5, Borgo Padova, Vicenza, Italy. May 4, 1934, No. 13550. Convention date, May 4, 1933. [Class 136 (iii).] In means for rapidly adjusting and securing the rear-wheel axle in a cycle fork (e.g. for use with variable-speed arrangements in which the chain is adapted to be engaged with sprockets of different sizes on the hub), the axle is secured to the fork by means of a gripping member carried by the axle and adapted to be quickly tightened or loosened by means of a rotatable eccentric ; the centring of the wheel is maintained during adjustment. The axle 3 is mounted in a sleeve 12 slidable at its ends in slots in the fork limbs 2, 21, and is clamped at one end by a nut 6 provided with locking setscrews 7, 7<1>. The other end of the axle 3 is formed with an enlarged head 31, on which is slidably mounted a cap 10, the edge of which is adapted to have a clamping engagement with the fork limb 2 under the control of an eccentric pin 14, which passes through a hole 13 in the head 3<1> and through a hole in the cap 10 and is rotated by means of a rod &c. connected to a control lever &c. on the cycle frame. Two threaded washers (not shown) are mounted on the screw-threaded ends of the sleeve 12 against the outer ends of the hub 15 and have notched outer faces to engage the fork limbs 2, 2<1>. The threads on the ends of the sleeve 12 have milled or rack-like edges to engage racks on the edges of the fork slots, whereby centring of the wheel is maintained during axle adjustments.
