Abstract

668,710. Detachable wheel mountings for cycles. JUY, L. C. H. June 16, 1950 [Sept. 12, 1949], No. 15116/50. Class 136 (ii). In a detachable wheel mounting a control lever 1 carries a disc 2, the outer surface of which is adapted to operate as a clamping surface and is provided with an eccentric opening for a spindle 4, which is carried between the sides of a strap 7 housed inside a clamping head 5 whereby rotating the lever 1 and with it the disc 2 produces a gradual movement between the surface of the spindle 4 bearing against the outer surface of the disc and coinciding with the outline of the periphery so that the key may move slidingly inside the strap 7 to urge the fastening head 5 against a lug 11 on the frame, as provided by projections 9, 10 on the key 6 adapted to bear against a corresponding bearing on the head 5 while at the same time a tractional stress is exerted by the lever spindle 4 on the strap 7 rigid with the wheel spindle 12 passing through the hub, the spindle carrying at the other end an adjustable support. If the lever 1 is rotated in the opposite direction to release the hub, the key 6 is released by the disc 2 out of engagement with the projections on the head 5 which is lifted out of contact with the lug 11.
