Abstract
572,333. Distilling apparatus for lifeboats. YOUNG, A., and YOUNG, E. F. May 26, 1943, Nos. 8378 and 20146. [Class 32] Apparatus for distilling water comprises a boiler and a steam condensing tube connected to the boiler and immersed in a water tank which is connected to the boiler by a cock controlled pipe so that the water in the tank and the pipe flows to the boiler solely under the action of gravity. The boiler, Fig. 4, comprises a vertical shell a having an internal combustion chamber b with chimney b' surrounded by a rectangular casing c stuffed with lagging c', a removable chimney extension d is provided with a venturi cowl e; fuel is fed through a shoot g. Steam leaves the boiler through a slot r communicating with a trap p formed as an extension on one side of the boiler and provided with a steam diverting plate s and passes thence to the condensing tubes v, v<2> from which condensate flows to the distilled water tank l. The tube v is immersed in a tank k connected through a cock controlled pipe o to an open feed tank m which feeds the boiler through a pipe n and is connected to the trap p through a pipe t. Space is provided for a food warming receptacle.
