Abstract

754,745. Feedwater supply systems. MONTECATINI SOC. GENERALE PER L'lNDUSTRIA MINERARIA E CHIMICA. April 2, 1954 [April 2, 1953], No. 9744/54. Class 123(2). The feedwater for a boiler fired with a gaseous fuel which contains a substantial proportion of hydrogen, for example methane or water gas, is obtained independently of external sources by condensing water vapour from the combustion gases leaving the boiler and, after its filtration and degassing, utilising the water thus obtained as feed water for the boiler. The combustion gases are diverted from the boiler outlet flue 1 by a baffle 3 having an adjustable by-pass damper 4 into a condenser-collector chamber 2 locating a coil 5 through which circulates cold water, for example, condensate. The water vapour in the gases condenses and collects in vessel 2 whence it passes to a storage tank 6. For boilers operating at a pressure of less than 60 atmospheres, the water is drawn from tank 6 by a pump 7 and flows through a filter press 8 for the removal of solid matter, a heater 16 and a degassing device (not shown), to the feedwater tank. When the operating pressure exceeds 60 atmospheres and substantially complete purity of the feedwater is required, the water from filter 8 flows through a cationic exchanger 12 for the removal of metallic ions, a degasser 13, a second pump 14 and an anionic exchanger 15 for the removal of silica, then flowing through the heater 16 to the feedwater tank.
