Abstract

572,256. Filters. CAMPBELL, G. S., and WOODMAN, F. E. Feb. 22, 1944, No. 3277. [Class 46] An'oil filter for internal combustion engines comprises a container a, Fig. 1, into which projects an inlet pipe f from a mounting e, the pipe being surrounded by a paper sleeve i coiled into a tapered spiral. Filtering material such as white cotton waste is arranged around the sleeve. The sleeve is formed by winding a strip of paper around a tapered mandrel, the lower coils of the strip being secured together by, adhesive. The coils at the other end become constricted upon the pipe f as the container is screwed into the mounting e. The sleeve i is screwed to a perforated disc h held in place by the cotton waste. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, the container a is held in place against a socket k by means of a clamp l and a pressure screw n.
