Abstract

489,109. Air-filters. TISDELL, T. A., and AMAL, Ltd. Jan. 19, 1937, No. 1639. [Class 8 (ii)] An air-filter for use with the inlet of air to an internal-combustion engine comprises a filter cloth &c. 1 provided with an edge stiffening such as a copper strip 3 or a sprayed metallic or paint coating and a gauze 2, the filter element, gauze, and reinforcement being secured together by corrugation. The stiffening edge may be folded over the gauze. A hollow stellate filter so formed may be enclosed in a cylindrical casing, Fig. 7, the air entering by apertures 21 and being drawn off from the interior of the filter. Alternatively, the cylinder may be in two parts of different diameters, the air entering at their junction. Specification 395,498 is referred to.
