Abstract

648,657. Ventilating crank chambers. FRAM CORPORATION. Oct. 4, 1948, No. 25764. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] An air filter for the breather of a crank case comprises a casing 12 having an end wall 23 formed with a neck 25 which is screw-threaded to receive an adaptor 16 comprising a cupshaped member removably secured to an oil filler pipe 11, as by a split tube telescoping into the pipe. The filter material in the casing may consist of fibrous material such as hair or casein coated with tricresyl phosphate contained between perforated screens 36, 38, the lower screen supporting the fibrous material on a sheet of fabric. The air enters by openings 30, 31 formed by bending portions of the casing inwardly and outwardly.
