Abstract

739,505. Filters. BOSCH.GES., R. Dec. 14, 1953 [Dec. 15, 1952], No. 34686/53. Class 46. An inward flow filter, particularly for liquid fuels, is characterized in that the filtering element of the insert consists solely of a seamless, cylindrical tube of fulled felt held with sealing effect at each end, the thickness of the tube in relation to its length being such that the tube is sufficiently rigid to be self-sustaining. Liquid fuel flows inwards through a preliminary filter comprising a perforate sheet metal jacket 10 held between flanges 8, 9 of sheet metal end plates 3, 4 and then through a felt tube 2 held by the end plates, which latter are secured, e.g. by soldering, to a perforate supporting tube 1. An annular bead 5 in each end plate engages an end face of the tube 2. The end plates have perforations 6, 7 enabling the cartridge to be slipped over a compressing bolt holding a filter housing (not shown) together. The wall thickness of the tube 2 is preferably from “ to 1/6 the outer diameter. The space between the tubes 2 and 10 serves for collection of residue.
