1507824 Filter ENGINEERING COMPONENTS Ltd 14 March 1975 [29 March 1974 (2) 31 Dec 1974] 13985/74 13986/74 and 56090/74 Headings BID and BIT A filter for an I.C. engine air intake comprises a pleated paper, tubular filter element of non-uniform diameter whose ends abut the ends of a cylindrical housing 6, inlet (or outlet) 7 opening radially or tangentially of the housing adjacent the narrow end of the element while outlet (or inlet) 8 opens into the wide end, the internal and external diameters of the wide end of the element corresponding to the diameters of outlet 8 and housing 6. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a double frustoconical element in a housing with twin outlets commoned together externally. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates a filter element whose two parts overlap and are joined by an impervious sleeve, which could be replaced by an annular plate if the parts end in a common plane.
