Abstract

1,073,980. Oil-bath air filters. LUFTFILTERBAU VEB. Nov. 3, 1964, No. 44756/64. Heading B1T. An oil-bath air filter, for an I/C engine or a compressor, comprises an air intake pipe 1 whose lower end, adjacent to the oil surface, widens like the mouth of a trumpet to a diameter d which is 0.65 to 0.85 of the internal diameter of the oil container 6. The oil bath is divided into annular sections by perforated rings 4, 5, and a frusto-conical ring 7 is attached below filter cartridge 8. In use, heavy dust is deposited in the centre oil chamber as the air slows down and turns through 90‹ at mouth 3. A spray of oil is generated at the edge of ring 5 capturing further dust, some oil being deposited in cartridge 8. On stopping the machine, oil drains from cartridge 8 into the outer annular chamber.
