Abstract

760,204. Centrifugal separators. AKTIEBOLAGET SCANIA-VABIS. Dec. 10, 1954 [Jan. 7, 1954]. No. 35778/54. Class 23. [Also in Group XXXIV] For purifying lubricating oil in an internal combustion engine a cyclone 13 is inserted in a conduit between the sump 2 and the parts 5 of the engine to be lubricated, the cyclone dividing the oil into two streams, the one which has the lesser content of impurities being passed through a conduit 9 to the parts 5, and the other being passed through a filter 8 to the oil sump 2. The filter effluent may be connected to the conduit 9 with a turn over device provided for delivering oil from the filter 8 to the parts 5 when the engine speed is low, and delivering oil from the cyclone to the parts 5 when the engine speed is higher. A reduction valve 6 may be connected to the conduit 9 to limit the lubricating oil pressure. The filter 8 may be provided with a restricting device 10.
