Abstract

991,305. Filters for liquids. COMPAGNIE ELECTRO-MECANIQUE. Jan. 29, 1963 [Feb. 16, 1962], No. 3580/63. Heading B1D. A filter including a fixed cylindrical filter element 6, Fig. 1, and associated with a rotating backflushing cleaning device 9, Fig. 2, operating on a portion of the element surface, has an inlet distribution chamber 1a for unfiltered liquid near one end of the element, and a "jacket" disposed adjacent at least a portion of the element on the unfiltered side so as to form with it a narrow annular passage smaller in cross-section than the distribution chamber. Where filtration flow is inward, as in Fig. 1, the "jacket" is the filter casing 1 ; where filtration flow is outward, as in Fig. 4, the "jacket" is an internal cup-shaped baffle 20. Sludge collects at 11, Fig. 1. In Fig. 7, 12 is the distribution chamber ; heavier sludge collects at 11 and lighter sludge at 23.
