Abstract

571,417. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1944, No. 2215. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1943. [Class 38 (ii)] A peaking transformer comprises a threelegged core, a primary B on the centre leg 12, opposed series connected secondaries A, C on the outer legs 11, 13, and air gaps 15, 16 in both outer legs, one of the gaps being bridged by a few laminations of saturable magnetic material. Thus,'all the flux produced by the primary is carried by the leg having the bridged gap for a short portion of each cycle while the flux is at a low value, thus producing a voltage impulse at the secondary terminals, while during the remainder of the cycle, after the bridge saturates, the flux divides equally between the two outer limbs and no resultant voltage appears at the secondary terminals.
