Abstract
569,244. Reversing. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. May 26, 1942, No. 7111. Convention date, June 23, 1941. [Class 7 (v)] In a reversing-mechanism for engines with two or more cam-shafts which when reversing are turned through different angles with respect to the crank-shaft, a cam-shaft 1 is driven from the crank-shaft 3 through gearing 5, one member of which incorporates a servomotor for reversing, and a cam-shaft 12 is driven from. the shaft 1 through transmission mechanism including a member or gear 8 displaced axially by a piston member 16 of the reversing servomotor in order to give the shaft 12 an angular displacement relative to the shaft 1. As shown, the camshaft 1 actuates fuel pumps 2 and the camshaft 12 actuates control valves 14 for the starting valves 15. The cam-shaft 12 is driven from the shaft 1 through bevel gearing 11 and helical gears 8, 9, the gear 8 being displaced along the shaft 1 by a piston 16 actuated. by lubricating oil or other pressure fluid admitted through pipes 17, 18 from a reversing valve 19. In modifications, (a) the piston 16 is arranged to displace the helical gear 9 by means of a bell-crank lever ; '(b) the cam-shaft 12 is in line with the cam-shaft 1 and is angularly adjusted from the piston 16 by means of a pin engaging a helical slot.
